GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) - WHAM Auctions in Greer is getting ready to auction off a piece of NASCAR history.

The featured item is NASCAR legend Richard Petty's 1988 car that wrecked in Daytona. The company will hold a preview day on Nov. 21 at noon, at their business in Greer. The following day, a formal auction will be held at noon as well.

Director of Business and Development for WHAM, Patsy Robertson, said getting this opportunity is monumental for the Greer Co.

A few weeks after that auction, WHAM is also auctioning off the remainder of NASCAR Hall of Famer Cotton Owens' estate. That auction is set for Saturday Dec. 6 at Owens garage in Spartanburg with a preview day from noon to 6 p.m. on Friday Dec. 5.

Owens son, Don, said while it's difficult to sell off his dad's items, he's hoping other NASCAR enthusiasts will get a chance to enjoy the things that brought his family so much joy over the years.

"I hope that they appreciate it as much as we did, watching him build it and work on it and be a part of it... If they get a little bit of enjoyment, as much as we got, it's worth letting go," said Owens.

The auction for Owens items, which includes his home and garage, begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

"We've got two auctions, with two NASCAR legends... within two weeks of each other... This is an exciting time for South Carolina," said Patsy Robertson, WHAM.
